Federal grant aiding veteran suicide prevention services featured on KET

The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded $111.9 million in grants to 191 community organizations to lower veteran suicide. According to the VA office's latest report, nearly 6,400 veterans died by suicide in 2023; 38 of those deaths were in the state of Nebraska. Omaha nonprofit At Ease USA is getting almost $260,000 from the VA's grant. At Ease USA has provided mental health services to veterans, active service members, health care workers, and their families since 2009. The organization plans to use the money to reach veterans.
