Admiral James O. Ellis, Jr. (Ret.) to Give Keynote Address to At Ease Luncheon January 28, 2013

James O. Ellis, Jr.James O. Ellis, Jr. retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), located in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 18, 2012. He led INPO for seven dynamic and challenging years.

INPO, sponsored by the commercial nuclear industry, is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the highest levels of safety and reliability -- to promote excellence -- in the operation of nuclear electric generating plants.

In 2004, Admiral Ellis completed a distinguished 39-year Navy career as Commander of the United States Strategic Command during a time of challenge and change. In this role, he was responsible for the global command and control of United States strategic and space forces, reporting directly to the Secretary of Defense.

A 1969 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Admiral Ellis was designated a Naval aviator in 1971. His service as a Navy fighter pilot included tours with two fighter squadrons, and assignment as Commanding Officer of an F/A-18 strike/fighter squadron. In 1991, he assumed command of the USS Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. After selection to Rear Admiral, in 1996 he served as a carrier battle group commander leading contingency response operations in the Taiwan Straits.

Admiral James O. Ellis, Jr., will be our keynote speaker for the At Ease luncheon on Monday, January 28, 2013, 11:45am, at the Centurylink Center.

Walter Scott, Jr. will receive the 2013 Founders' award for his dedication to our military families.

In 2009, we lost more soldiers to suicide than to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined. On average, 18 veterans take their own lives every day because of depression and post traumatic stress. For every service person affected, many more family members and loved ones will also be impacted, directly and indirectly.

Fortunately for Nebraska's military families and their communities, At Ease offers 100% confidential, expert treatment and counseling services for our veterans, active military and their families to fight this disturbing trend. In conjunction with Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, At Ease USA is making a difference in the lives of our military families from Omaha to North Platte.

Since its inception, nearly 140 people have been admitted to the At Ease program. Of those 140 clients, 65 have been discharged.  We had hoped to see an 80% reduction in symptoms for program participants. In fact, 83% of clients indicated a reduction in symptoms and 96 % of those participants remain free of legal issues, becoming productive citizens in our community.

At Ease USA is committed to treat more clients, and to continually explore new and effective treatments, every year. On behalf of the heroic military families we are honored to serve, thank you very much for your interest.
